1st International Conference on “High Performance Energy Efficient Buildings and Homes” held at UET Lahore

UET  Lahore in collaboration with McWhorter School of Building Science, Auburn University, Alabama, USA organized 1st International Conference on “High Performance Energy Efficient Buildings and Homes”.

Vice Chancellor UET Prof. Dr. Fazal Ahmad Khalid, Ex Chairman Architectural Engineering and Design Prof. Dr. Muhammad Arif Khan, Dr. Salman Azhar, Dr. Sabahat Arif, Prof. Scott Kramer and Prof. Emeritus Norbert Lechner from Auburn University USA, Senior Architect Amr Abdel from Michigan State University and a large number of students and faculty members attended the conference.

Prof. Emeritus Norbert Lechner delivered a keynote speech on “Architects and Buildings in a Warming World” while Senior Architect Amr Abdel talked about “Sustainability in Islamic Architecture Design” and Prof. Scott Kramer described “Tube-Steel House Design for Low Income Communities”. The objective of this international conference was to provide a platform to architects, engineers, builders, developers, planners, students and other related key players in adopting innovation.

While addressing to the participants Prof. Norbert Lechner said, “The usage of energy in developing countries is increasing rapidly because of the massive consumption in daily life. It is need of time to take measures for conservation of energy”. He also said that construction of structures through appropriate steps on scientific grounds will be helpful to reduce the chances of any accident which can also beneficial to bring architectural revolution.

While talking to the participants Vice Chancellor UET Prof. Dr. Fazal Ahmad Khalid stressed to adopt effective and low cost strategies in designing and construct the buildings. He said that for achieving the said task awareness programs and assistance to policymakers must be assured at large. The techniques discussed in this event can be utilized at domestic and industry level simultaneously, he added.

At the end, souvenirs were presented to renowned speakers by the VC UET Prof. Dr. Fazal Ahmad Khalid.
