Prof. Dr. Syed Mansoor Sarwar takes charge as UET new Vice Chancellor (June 24, 2019)

Lahore ( ) Newly appointed Vice-Chancellor of University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore assumed today. In pursuant to the recommendations submitted by the Search Committee constituted vide Higher Education Department’s Notification No. SO (Univ.) 5-1/2018-P dated 20.02.2019 and in compliance of the Honorable Supreme Court of Pakistan given on 22.04.2018 in HRC No. 13865-P/2018, the Governor/Chancellor UET Lahore Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar has appointed Prof. Dr. Syed Mansoor Sarwar, Vice Chancellor of Qarshi University, Lahore, as the 16th vice chancellor of University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore following a permanent appointment for the position for a period of four years. A notification No. SO(Univ.)17-1/2019 to this effect has been issued by the Punjab Higher Education Department (HED) late on Monday 24-06-2019, which confirmed the appointment of Prof. Dr. Syed Mansoor Sarwar as the new Vice-Chancellor of the varsity. Former acting Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Aziz Akbar handed over the charge to Prof. Dr. Syed Mansoor Sarwar.
With a Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa USA, he joined UET after serving Punjab University College of Information Technology (PUCIT) for over 12 years and took retirement after serving for more than 12 years in 2018. Previously, he had served the University of Portland as an assistant professor and associate professor for over a decade. He served at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) as a professor and head of Computer Science Department and also at Kuwait University.
He was warmly received by the faculty members and administration of university at Vice Chancellor’s Office. All Deans and Chairmen greeted the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor at his office and extended full support to him. Talking to Deans, Chairmen, and Faculty of the university. He said that he was honored to be Vice Chancellor of the oldest and one of the most prestigious and pioneering Engineering institutions of Pakistan. Further, he said he would put in his best efforts to improve UET’s educational environment. He also said that Research, development, academic excellence and serving the UET community are among his topmost priorities. Untiring efforts will be made in facilitating the students and promoting research culture.” He is also an Alumni of UET who got the degree of B. Sc in Electrical Engineering in 1981. He completed his intermediate from Government College Lahore. However former vice-chancellor Prof. Dr. Aziz Akbar congratulated him for his joining in varsity.
